Art 201
STUDIO ASSIGNMENTS (Mini Portfolio): Studio Projects for the elementary classroom 2B) understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, and principles; processes of inquiry; and theories that are central to the disciplines.
Drawing ProjectDescription: Using a still life set up, I drew three separate angles of the still life inside each frame. On the edges of the frames I wanted to contrast the lightness of the images within the frames. I chose to use sharpie to darken the edges and between the separate frame.
Rationale: This project teaches, observing objects from different angles with different shadow hues. It also teaches the blending of colored pencil. |
Painting ProjectDescription: Using a mixed media paper, acrylic paint, and sharpies, I made a piece that represented how I felt during the Covid lockdown.
Rationale: This activity helps students reflect and express their inner thoughts and feelings during this time, since it is such a prevalent time in our lives, especially for younger students. This also helps students learn how to paint on paper, also decide how to compose a piece with somehow portraying their thoughts and feelings into an art piece. |
Clay ProjectDescription: Using a 8x8 slab of clay, I included many different layers and textures with different sides of clay. I wanted to show many different techniques of making textures within the flowers and how to compose a piece with many different techniques throughout the piece.
Rationale: This project teaches students how to make and compress slabs. also how to attach different pieces of clay into an original piece using the technique called slipping and scoring. This can also teach students to not be afraid to explore different tools, textures, and to get their hands dirty. |
Lesson Plan |
Description: This lesson plan is made for an eighth grade classroom, it is a painting project. Students will need watercolor paper, knowledge of different color schemes, water color paints, and colored pencils. The students will be able to chose a color scheme and create a piece off of a still life, the color scheme they chose will convey an emotion that is seen throughout the piece.
Rationale: Students learn how to pick a color scheme that fits within the emotion they are trying to portray, with this they will be able to relate back to the psychology of the emotions of color. Students will also learn how to use color pencil and watercolor on watercolor paper. |
Description: I was able to observe a range of grade levels from kindergarten to 6th-grade. I got to sit in on Large group instruction, small group instruction, and one on one instruction.
Rationale: From this experience I was able to observe a number of different classroom management techniques. I also learned how to communicate with different age levels, with new students, and talk to teachers that are in the field and ask about the challenges they face within the classroom. |

Description: During the course of our semester we were assigned to go to a show at the University Galleries and chose one piece to write about from the visiting artist showing.
Rationale: It is extremely important for students to experience a gallery setting since it is so different from a traditional classroom setting. It also can show a number of different art styles, and can help develop an education about different cultures styles of making art. |
Description: Over the course of our semester we were assigned with a Music Education group to illustrate a children's book. My group and I were assigned to a children's book about Florence Price, the first female, and African American Composer to have her symphony played by a major American orchestra.
